Tigerlily Koi. One of Second Life’s greatest hair-creators (Calla hair)

The other day I had the pleasure to meet one of Second Life’s truly Super Women “Tigerlily Koi”, the owner of Calla. (Calla is specializing in women’s hair).
Tigerlily, 32 years old woman, grew up in Virginia, and today lives in North Carolina with her husband. She has six children.

The hair-business in Second Life became such a big success that she makes a fulltime living only from her Second Life business. Tigerlily spends about 12-15 hours in Second Life every day.

The beginning
Making hair in Second Life is very different from her real life knowledge and experiences, and it was by coincidence she started making hair (she took some different classes two years ago, and one day decided to give hair a try). Today Tigerlily is one of the greatest hair creators in the entire Second Life.
I have always bought my hair at Calla.

How to create the hair
Most of the hair she makes is things she would wear herself. Sometimes she works off suggestions from customers. In the last week she has gotten 6 “requests” and she will been working from those.

When she runs out of ideas she just picks up a hairstyle magazine, sees someone on TV, or in the grocery store and think “Ooo I could do that!”

To create the quality hair like Tigerlily does, it can take a few hours to a day, and some take a lot longer. The longest she has spent on one hairstyle is about 3 weeks!

The most difficult thing about hair making is the fine tuning. To make sure all the pieces overlap, so that no scalp shows, or so there are no blunt ends sticking out of your forehead or that kind of thing.

Tigerlily does not prefer creating men’s hair (it tends to get too girly when she does it), so instead her brother “Griptape Pro” has taken over the men’s hair.

She has recently hired a store manager, as well as quite a few customer service reps to help out around the store.

Content theft
Content theft is an ongoing issue in Second Life, and Tigerlily often has to file DMCA’s (Digital Millennium Copyright Act).
½ year ago I won a hair in a “lucky chair” in Second Life, and I remember I was a little confused because I recognized the hair from Calla, and I contacted some people to figure it out – and it seem to be an innocent guy who had bought a “shop kit” and in that kit you could find false copies of Tigerlily’s hair.

Bald for RFL (relay for life)
In these days you can find Tigerlily without any hair. She agreed to go bald for a month if Relay for Life surpassed the total of the last 4 years combined – $167,000 usd.
(Relay for Life, the fundraising for the American cancer society).
She told her team she would go bald for another month if they raised 2.5 million L$. Her team actually raised 2.9 million, so they got her bald for an extra month! lol
