This is SO cool. Sophie Zhu (Johan) is in the final in this big competition:

A competition about design for an eco-friendly community is an architectural competition advocating the use of bamboo as a building material. The competition takes place in a virtual rainforest in Second Life

The winners, selected by an international jury in Second Life and Real Life, as well as by public vote, will be invited to assist with the construction in China or Hawaii.

Johan about the construction:
The house is constructed mainly in woven bamboo. Heat shaped construction bamboo creates a solid framework and structural elements of four black bamboo canes each lifts the construction about six meters above ground. In order to avoid moist damage to the canes and to insure a stable and unobtrusive construction the structural elements are mounted in a steel plate and bolted to a concrete pad foundation. The pad foundation has a low impact the environment and is easy to establish in rough and soft terrain.

(Jon Brouchoud aka Keystone Bouchard is one of the judges and to a machinima I jumped into my panda-outfit, and walked around with keystone and inspected the bamboos houses). hehe

*Crosses fingers for Johan – I know you are the best). Please take me with you to Hawaii if you win, lol.
